All-fiber-optic nonreciprocal modulator.
A new all-fiber-optic nonreciprocal device using two acousto-optic frequency shifters is proposed and demonstrated. When the device was operated as an optical isolator, an extinction ratio of 22 dB was obtained. The device's unique modulation capability is also described.
متن کاملAstigmatic phase correction for the magneto-optic spatial light modulator.
We report a simple low-cost technique for evaluating the phase distortion in a magneto-optic spatial light modulator. We find that the dominant distortion is caused by astigmatism and is easily compensated by encoding of the complex-conjugate pattern onto the device. Two experimental results are shown. First, the focused spot size from a Fresnel lens is sharpened when the aberrations are correc...

Garnet films of composition (Lu,Bi)3(Fe,Ga,Al)5O12 and (Tm,Bi)3(Fe,Ga)5O12 are grown by liquid-phase epitaxy on [111]-oriented substrates of gadolinium gallium garnet. Ferrimagnetic films with positive or negative Faraday-rotation as well as paramagnetic films with negligible Faraday-rotation are produced by variations of the rare earth ion substitutions. The temperature dependence of Faraday-r...
متن کاملAcousto-optic superlattice modulator using a fiber Bragg grating.
A modulator is reported in which an extensional acoustic wave is launched along a fiber Bragg grating. The acousto-optic superlattice effect causes an enhancement in reflectivity within a narrow spectral region on both sides of the Bragg wavelength. For a fixed acoustic propagation direction, the Doppler shift can be either positive or negative, depending on whether the wavelength of the incide...
متن کاملFiber-optic confocal microscopy using a spatial light modulator.
We present a novel fiber-optic confocal microscope in which the scanning operation is achieved by use of a spatial light modulator (SLM) to sequentially illuminate individual fibers or patterns of multiple fibers. Experimental images are presented, and the optical-sectioning capability of the device is demonstrated. The novel SLM-based system is more optically efficient, achieves higher contras...
